Police, firefighters, & kayaker rescue dog in icy water

On Thursday, March 14, 2019, at approximately 10:08 am, City of Monona Fire and Police personnel responded to the 600 block of Pirate Island for a reported dog that had somehow fallen into the water and could not get up on the ice to get out. On arrival, they found a woman in a kayak was monitoring the dog’s situation, but was unable to reach the animal. Fire personnel were able to throw a safety rope to the kayaker and pull her up on the ice towards shore. As she was pulled towards shore, she was able to grab the dog by its collar and guide it to safety. The animal was reunited with its owner.
