"I'll take two Minions to go, please": steamed buns with cartoon faces are a hit

These colourful Chinese steamed buns were a hit with tourists - after being decorated with cartoon characters.

The snacks, called Salapao or cha siu bao in Cantonese, were attracting attention from passers-by at a market stall in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand.

They featured brightly coloured designs with animals and popular cartoon characters. Chinese steamed buns are a popular snack in Thailand. They are sold at hawker stalls and roadside eateries as well as Chinese restaurants.

The buns are filled with barbecue-flavoured cha siu pork or mince meat and can be sweet or savoury. They are served as a type of dim sum.
