Residents cut off in rural Mozambique following deadly Cyclone Idai

A major road in the vicinity of Beira, Mozambique, has been swept away by surging flood waters caused by Cyclone Idai.

Footage captured on March 19 shows water gushing above a collapsed road as helpless bystanders watch on.

At least 200 people were killed by Cyclone Idai as hundreds remain missing across southern Africa. The death toll could rise above 1,000, agencies reported.

Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi have been the hardest hit.
