Scuffles and conflicts during Oxford Union protests against Steve Bannon speaking

Scuffles break out at Oxford Union as Steve Bannon attempts to leave following a debate at the Union Society. Police try to hold back protesters opposed to him being given a platform.

The protesters blocked the venue all day and tried to prevent audience members from entering.

One man who scuffled with protesters gave his name as Robert. He said when he was at Oxford University Oswald Mosley was granted permission to engage in debate and that Britain was a country built on free speech.

A 26-year-old student who only gave his name as Yannis said the Oxford Union was viewed as a very prestigious place to speak and if Bannon was allowed a platform it would legitimise far-right views.
