Sea Lions Launch onto Buoy to Relax

Occurred on July 5, 2019 / Ketchikan, Alaska, USA

Info from Licensor: "My family of five, plus a friend, went out for a day of fishing for halibut from Ketchikan to Duke Island, south of Metlakatla, Alaska and slowed by the Hodden Reef buoy. The one-ton sea lions jumped off and quickly realized we weren’t a threat and wanted back in their resting place. I’ve lived in southern southeast Alaska for over 30 years and always wondered how such big creatures could get up on the ocean buoys, they’re always there and when we came back by there were 7 on it. So I pulled out my phone to see if I could capture them as they clearly wanted to get back to sunning. Watching them shoot out of the water like rockets was amazing! And my five-year-old was glad to watch it on repeat."
