Search and rescue efforts underway in the wake of deadly Indonesia floods


Ongoing flooding in the Indonesian province of South Sulawesi has left over 30 dead and thousands displaced, according to reports on January 24.

Parts of Makassar City have been flooded following incessant heavy rain that fell from Monday evening until Tuesday noon. Floodwaters reached a height of up to 2.5 meters in several districts.

Currently, Indonesia is experiencing the peak of the rainy season. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has warned of possible hydrometeorological disasters to come.
