Sleepy shopkeeper dozes through robbery in Indonesia

This thief attempted to rob a shop while its owner fell asleep on the job behind the till in this classic clip from the Newsflare archive.

In the CCTV video, recorded shortly before 4.30am in 2017 in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, the motorcycle helmet-wearing thief walks into the shop and sees that the shopkeeper is sat down behind the counter and has dozed off.

The thief then leans over the counter and takes some cash.

Not satisfied by that, he then tries to remove the cash drawer full of money, but it slips from his grasp and falls to the floor, waking up the startled shopkeeper when it crashes to the ground.

At that moment, the thief makes a run for it while the shopkeeper leaps up, carrying a huge sword, but the thief escapes on a bike.

In the end, the thief got away with 100,000 rupiahs, less than £6.
