Sloth bear breaks into residential community in central India

A wild sloth bear entered a residential area in central India yesterday morning (March 16), creating panic among residents living in the area until it was rescued.

On Saturday the bear was seen hiding in an empty house in the Balaji ward of Chanderpur, Maharashtra state. When local residents spotted bear roaming there they worriedly called the Forest Department, who successfully retrieved the bear after a three hour operation.

The bear did not harm anyone and was tranquillised before being removed by a Forest Department vehicle. According to the lead Forest officer named Ashok, the bear lost his way in the forest as a forested area is nearby, and that it would returned there immediately.
