South African protesters clash with police over lack of running water


Protesters in Cape Town came face-to-face with South African police as tear gas canisters were fired in their direction today (April 11).

One protester can be seen throwing a canister back towards the police followed shortly by two loud bangs. According to the filmer, this is the sound of tear gas canisters exploding.

Protesters are seen hiding behind shields amid smoke.

Local reports suggest that people are protesting over the lack of running water in the area.

Public order police have arrested eight people for inciting violence, local media reported.
