Spectacular drone footage of world’s first underground luxury hotel in Shanghai

The world’s first underground luxury hotel was opened in Shanghai yesterday (November 16).

The drone video shows the spectacular view of the 336-room InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland hotel which is in the side of an 88-metre-high abandoned quarry.

According to reports, 16 floors of the hotel are underground and only two floors are above it.

The bottom two floors are completely submerged underwater and customers can see a ten-metre-deep aquarium through the glass walls.

Planning for the subterranean hotel began in 2006, but construction didn't begin until 2013.

The hotel’s room charges starting at around £380 per night, reports said.
