Strong waves slam Florida beach as Hurricane Michael nears

Beaches along the Florida Panhandle saw churning waves and high tides on Monday, October 8, as Hurricane Michael tracked towards the Gulf.

Forecast to make landfall on Wednesday, Michael was upgraded from a tropical storm to a hurricane earlier in the day.

This video, filmed at Pensacola Beach at around 12 pm, shows the rocky waves.

A state of emergency has been declared for 26 counties, with mandatory evacuations ordered in three.

Authorities predict that it will be the area's strongest hurricane in at least 13 years.
