Tens of thousands of Jews mourn death of grand Rabbi in Brooklyn, NYC

Tens of thousands of people crowded into the streets of Brooklyn in New York City on Tuesday (April 2) for the funeral of a grand rabbi, with two NYPD officers injured in the process.

Officers tried to control the massive crowd during the procession, some estimating that there were as many as 100,000 mourners.

The filmer told Newsflare that he filmed the footage from his office while he was at work.

In the video, we can see the Rabbi's coffin carried in the middle of the crowd.

Rabbi Yisroel Avrohom Portugal died at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, surrounded by his family, on Monday (April 1). He was 95 years old.

The rabbi arrived in the United States in the 1960s after surviving the Nazi death camps and was a mainstay in Borough Park and Williamsburg for decades.

A New York City police officer suffered a leg injury after being hit by one of the cars in the funeral procession. The second officer was hit on the head by a drone apparently used by a person attending the services.
Both suffered minor injuries.
