Thousands of butterflies flutter on the ground after rain in Thailand

Thousands of butterflies gather on the ground after heavy rain in Phitsanulok, central Thailand, on June 8.

The insects descended on the area outside the temple in damp conditions following a monsoon downpour.

The white creatures were filmed fluttering around as Buddhist monks and visitors watched them settle in several clusters on the ground.

Onlooker Supachai Worathirasathit said: ''I was going for a trip in a cave and I saw this nearby.

"I was very lucky to go at the time this was happening because it doesn't happen a lot.

"Only during the months of May or June when there is rain.''
