Thousands of protesters leave Hong Kong airport after forcing shutdown

Thousands of anti-government protesters were filmed on Monday walking away from Hong Kong International Airport after forcing authorities to cancel departing flights.

Many protesters were reported to be fleeing in advance of an expected police clearance operation, which some fear could be violent.

Thousands of anti-government protesters have gathered at the airport, which is one of the world's busiest.

Officials said operations had been "seriously disrupted" by the protests.
