Unseasonal hailstorm pummels cars parked on a street in Barcelona

Residents in the south of Spain were stunned when they were hit by a severe hail storm.

Footage from Tuesday (April 9) afternoon shows how the thick white balls of ice pummelled cars parks in a road in Artés, Barcelona.

There was so much hail they blanketed the motors in the same way as a heavy downfall of snow.

The unseasonal spring weather brought hailstorms across the Catalonia region. Roads and motorways were brought to a standstill causing traffic difficulties.

Outside of Artés, the storms were felt in Martorell, Tona and Molins de Rei.

In some places, more than 30 litres fell per square meter destroying the harvests of fruits and vegetables.
