Video shows horrific scale of plastic pollution in Indonesian mangrove swamp

A video has emerged from Indonesia showing the scale of plastic pollution at a mangrove swamp in East Java.

The clip, which was filmed in Pasuruan on April 15, shows plastic waste entirely covering the ground beneath the mangrove plants.

Despite the fact that mangrove swamps effectively protect coastal areas from erosion, vast areas of this ecosystem have been destroyed around the world, particularly by the shrimp farming industry.
