'Largest' refinery on US east coast explodes in flames

Fire and smoke can be seen miles away after an explosion at the Philadelphia Energy Solutions refinery.

Nearby Interstate-76 closed for the protection of the public and to make room for emergency vehicles after the explosion on Friday (21 June), shortly after 4 am.

According to local news reports called the refinery 'the largest of its kind on the east coast' as homes as far away as South Jersey felt explosions strong enough to knock paintings from the wall.
