Car washed away after skidding into a storm drain flooded by Malaysian monsoon

A car was washed away after the driver skidded off the road and plunged into a storm drain in central Malaysia.

Khodijah Mohd Ismail, 56, lost control of the silver Toyota Vios during a monsoon season downpour in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, on Sunday (November 4) at 6:30 pm.

The motorist managed to clamber out of the vehicle to safety, but as the rain continued a torrent of water surged through the man-man concrete drains.

Khodijah watched in disbelief as his vehicle was carried away by the flood water, eventually reaching the local river.

Selangor Deputy Chief of Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (JSPT) Deputy Superintendent Sahimi Husin issued a statement: "Based on the initial information obtained, a Toyota Vios car was believed to have skidded before plunging into the drain."

''While waiting for the tow truck, the heavy rain caused the water's current in the monsoon drain to sweep the car away.

''Further investigation found that the car was registered under the name, Khodijah Mohd Ismail, 56, addressed in Tapah, Perak.

"The car driver is safe. There were no reports of the incident being received.''
