Cheerleader Crab Waves Pom-Poms

Occurred on 2024 / Hachijojima, Tokyo, Japan

Info from Licensor: "This crab is also known as the boxer crab or the cheerleader crab.

Although it looks like he is cheering on someone, he is actually trying to protect himself by attaching sea anemones to both hands, which fish hate.

The sea anemones that this crab is holding in both hands are shrouded in mystery.
It is not known where they live or where the crab brought them from.
This white sea anemone has never been found living apart from the pompon crab.

The Japanese name for this crab is Kinchaku crab. Kinchaku means a scrap of cloth or a small piece of fabric in Japanese.
It is called kinchaku-crab because it is holding them in both hands."
