Chinese students forced to smash smartphones in classroom

Chinese high school students were filmed being forced to smash their smartphones in a classroom after breaking school rules against bringing them in.

In the video, filmed in Shangqiu City in central China's Henan Province on May 21, a boy repeatedly throws his phone on a platform in front of the classroom while a male teacher stands beside.

Another clip shows the boy using a lock to hit his smartphone and throwing it onto the floor again while sobbing. As a female teacher standing beside said: "Smash it again! Throw it on the floor!"

According to reports, students were not allowed to bring phones to school. The year 12 boy was asked to smash his smartphone on the platform as he broke the school rule.

Teachers said the incident was organised by the student leaders, not the teachers. The local Education Bureau has started to investigate the case.
