Gas explosion in London residential building leaves man in critical condition

The clear-up operation continues this evening after a suspected gas-explosion tore through a ground-floor flat this morning (July 31) on the Siward Estate in Tooting, South London.

An elderly man was taken to hospital and remains critical this evening and three other residents were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Debris had been cleared away by council workers and property was in the process of being boarded-up, showing the scale of the explosion. Representatives from Wandsworth continued to remain at the scene.
