Heavy police presence on scene after one officer dead, six wounded in Florence, South Carolina shooting


Deputies arriving at a Florence, South Carolina home to issue a search warrant were caught in several rounds of gunfire on Wednesday, October 3, leaving one officer dead and six injured. The incident occured at around 4 pm. According to local media, the suspect used a "high-powered rifle" to open fire from the second floor of the home. The attack is thought to have been deliberate. Surviving officers and deputies were being treated at a hospital that night. Their conditions were not announced. The suspect, whose motives remain unclear, was brought to custody a little more than an hour after the tragedy.
