Hundreds of protesters leave Hong Kong airport after shutdown

Hundreds of airport staff and protesters were filmed on Monday walking home from Hong Kong International Aiport after protesters forced the cancellation of all departing flights.

Staff were told to leave early due to the shutdown but were forced to walk because of long queues at the airport for public transport.

Many protesters are also reported to be fleeing in advance of an expected police clearance operation, which some fear could be violent.

Thousands of anti-government protesters have gathered at the airport, which is one of the world's busiest.

Officials said operations had been "seriously disrupted" by the protests.
