Peacock savaged by dog then saved after 2-hour surgery

A peacock was attacked by a dog several weeks ago in southern India, necessitating a lengthy recovery culminating in a two-hour surgery yesterday (December 2).

At a village near the city of Salem in Karnataka, people rushed out after hearing the peacock's painful screams, finding it in a pool of blood. The villagers put mud on the peacock’s as a local way to reduce pain and called the forest department.

Within 30 minutes officials reached the spot and took the peacock to a veterinary hospital, where doctors did a through check up and found that it required surgery. The peacock was then finally shifted to Amulya Veterinary hospital in Salem.

After two weeks, the surgery was successfully completed, with the operation taking almost two hours. After fully recovering the peacock will be released back into the forest.
