Search and rescue team evacuates landslide casualty in the wake of deadly Indonesia floods


Ongoing flooding in the Indonesian province of South Sulawesi has left over 30 dead and thousands displaced, according to reports on January 24.

Parts of Makassar City have been flooded following incessant heavy rain that fell from Monday evening until Tuesday noon. Floodwaters reached a height of up to 2.5 meters in several districts.

Indonesia is currently experiencing the peak of the rainy season. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has warned of possible hydrometeorological disasters to come.

More than 3,000 people have been evacuated and at least 46 are being treated at local hospitals and health clinics.
