Tijuana migrant shelter a muddy mess as rain pours down

A storm system moved into Tijuana on November 29, bringing rainy conditions to the shelter where thousands of Central American are staying in hopes of gaining entry to the United States.

The video, filmed by journalist Sarah Kinosian, shows the Benito Juarez Sports Complex flooded, the ground muddy and littered with belongings and trash.

Heavy rainfall made tough living conditions even rougher for migrants housed at the sports ground. Authorities announced earlier that they would open a second, roofed shelter in light of the weather, but plans have since stalled.

The rain also renewed concerns from health officials about the development of common illnesses, as well as more serious conditions. So far, there has been no outbreak of any serious ailments.
