Wild monkey spotted at polling station during elections in India

This was the bizarre moment a monkey was spotted at a polling station in India.

However strange it may sound, a primate was seen sitting inside a government office where officers were awaiting nomination papers from candidates.

The bizarre incident happened on May 16 in Gadag district of India's southern Karnataka state.

Visuals showed the monkey sitting on top of a table surrounded by officials, who did not lose their cool. One person was seen pouring water in a plate and offered it to the monkey. Though it took a few seconds to decide, once set, the primate put its head down and drank the water.

Reports said the primate's presence cheered the officers, who also shared tea and snacks with the former.

The seven-phase general elections in India started on April 11 and will end on May 19. The results will be declared on May 23.
