Cruise ships race into Southampton a day early to avoid rough seas from Storm Hannah

Cruise ships have arrived in Southampton a day early to avoid Storm Hannah, according to an eyewitness who captured the scene on camera.

P&O cruise ship Britannia is seen docking in Southampton a day early, with passengers now spending the last night of their cruise safely docked alongside the Ocean Terminal rather than face the predicted stormy weather at sea, the filmer wrote.

Princess Cruise ship Sapphire Princess is also seen racing into Southampton a day early, with passengers spending the night onboard docked in port rather than risk the stormy seas whipped up by the bad weather, the filmer added.

The video was filmed by Nigel Allen from a car ferry going from Southampton to the Isle of Wight.

The ships would have been scheduled to dock on Saturday morning at around 5am, Allen said.

Allen, who lives in the Isle of Wight and was visiting family in Southampton, runs a YouTube channel that features cruise ship tips and reviews.
